It was wonderful to hand out the last of the ICAS NSW certificates at assembly on Friday and celebrate the academic achievement and effort the children had put in over the year.
As an additional opportunity for our year 3-6 students to test themselves academically we offer the ICAS NSW assessments. These enable children to compete against other like minded and skilled students across Asia-Pacific region in math, science, writing, spelling and english. This year the University of NSW again had almost 1 million entries across all year levels and disciplines in ICAS assessments. At Russell Street we submitted 122 entries and the children showed their academic ability with 73 receiving awards (finishing in the top 40% or higher in their age group) 22 of these being in the top 10% of all entries.
Of note was the 8 entries that received High Distinction finishing in the top 1% of all entries and one of these being Emily C who earned a NSW Medal for being the top score of all entries in year 5 science.
If you are thinking about entering these assessments next year please email Susanne Smith email@example.com who oversees these at our school.
